News from Dean
Dean sent me this e-mail to post. It's great to hear from past members and see they are still piping.

G'day CEPB!
Was just surfing through the website looking at the Anzac Day pics and thought I'd send something of what I was involved in up here. It's only a link I'm afraid because I don't have direct access to the photos right at this minute.
The day, as with all Anzac Days, started for me at 4 am up for the dawn service in Anzac Park at the end of The Strand here in town. An absolutely beautiful location with the sunrise breaking over the flat waters of Cleveland Bay, stunning. After the service and post service activities (yes, may have involved some rum!), it was off to get ready for the march. This was along The Strand and was quite a pleasant wee stroll, enough time for twice through our five diferent brackets. A huge crowd lined the paths and the sound of the 12 pipers, 5 sides, three tenors and a bass was quite impressive.
Once the march and post march service was finished it was back to the RSL for a massive afternoon and I've attached the link for those who want to watch the slideshow. Fortunately for me there is only a slight left-rear view of my melon so you won't have to suffer through yet another frontal of a 'tattie'. After we'd done our thing it was time to go home and get changed for the Anzac Day Cowboys vs. Manly NRL match, which we won both in score and the fights - go Cowboys!!!! After the game it was back to the club for some celebrating and then, i believe it was away home for a long overdue snooze - all in all a very rewarding, if tiring, day.
Looking forward to next year joining you guys in the Adelaide march.
Cheers, Deano.

ANZAC Day Newcastle

Hi All,
Wow it was raining in Adelaide....What the??
You guys looked great, nice turn out considering the conditions.
I had my first ANZAC Day parade with City of Newcastle RSL Pipes & Drums....Wow, what a day and what a turn out we had. All up we had 20 Pipers, 5 Tenors, 6 Sides and our Base Drummer.
Marched through the city, attended the main ceremony in the city and I was given the honour along with two other Pipers to play the Lament (Flowers of the Forest) during the laying of the wreaths which went for about 20 minutes. We then re-formed up and with a Police escort we Piped our way back through the city to Newcastle RSL Club with a large crowd of people following behind, and played there. After that the band then went to Adamstown RSL, then Mayfield RSL and then finishing at Kotara Bowling Club. Big Day. My day began playing at Dawn Service on the RAAF Base at 5:30. Long day, but an extremely memoriable one. I've attached a pic for you all.
Missing you all and love looking at the Web and the Blog to see how you guys are doing.
Cheers,
Andrew.
p.s. Tina hopes to be up and going with the band after the baby is born in August, she's pretty keen.

ANZAC Parade, Elizabeth
I've put some pictures up on the site from today's ANZAC parade at Elizabeth.
Without a fan base there to support me like some of you had, I found it a little difficult to get any photos of us playing though. If you have any good photos it would be great if you could post them to the blog and I'll add them to the main site.
Well done to Aaron who played in his first parade today!

Big, Bold and Brassy
The BBB event on Tuesday night was a great success. I was speaking to the organiser today and he was very happy with the event overall and our band's performance in particular. They were expecting 500 guests and they actually had 570 plus the various bands people and dancers.
Our performance was very well received with the crowd really getting involved and I was proud to lead such a performance on the night. We did well and everyone involved should be congratulated.
Our performance of course was not perfect (we're not a grade 1 band) and some of the issues we've been working on are not completely ironed out yet but we're certainly moving in the right direction.
Again, well done and keep it up!
Liz has posted some photos on the web site.
